Executive Team

Bill Gruber

Bill Gruber, President and CEO, founded Interlace Medical in August 2006. Bill has extensive experience in organizational development and in product development for rapid growth businesses. Prior to joining Interlace Medical, he was President of Hemedex, Inc. where he led fundraising efforts and developed the company’s business plan. Prior to Hemedex, Bill spent five years at Cortek Inc., a spinal products company. As Cortek’s V.P. of Sales and Marketing, he built sales from $612K to over $10M. During his last two years he was the V.P. of New Business Development and Marketing. In this role he was instrumental in creating Soteira, a Cortek subsidiary, focused on devices for treating vertebral compression fractures. Prior to Cortek, Bill spent ten years at Boston Scientific Corporation. Before leaving Boston Scientific Corporation, he held the position of Director of the $172M Global Atherosclerotic Therapy business. Prior to entering the medical device sector, Bill spent five years in sales and marketing roles at Procter and Gamble.

Sarah Kalil

Sarah Kalil, Chief Operating Officer, joined Interlace Medical in August 2010. Sarah has an extensive background in all facets of the medical device industry including medical startup operations, as well as large scale manufacturing. Before joining Interlace Medical, Sarah was President of Boston Endo-Surgical Technologies where she led product development and manufacturing operations for spine surgery instruments. Prior to that she was a Partner and Operations Director at INNOVEND, LLC. Sarah’s early career experience was in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, serving as VP QA/RA to several medical device OEM’s. Sarah is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Engineering and she holds board seats on the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMedic) as well as the Pleiades Charitable Foundation.

Ron Adams

Ron Adams, Chief Technology Officer, joined Interlace Medical in October 2006. Ron has over 17 years of medical device industry experience and has provided leadership for teams launching several new products. Prior to joining Interlace Medical, Ron was responsible for launching key gynecology and vascular surgery products at Smith & Nephew Endoscopy. Prior to Smith & Nephew, he led a team developing a laser-based treatment for atrial fibrillation at Cardiofocus. Ron was an R&D Director in Boston Scientific Corporation’s Endoscopy Division developing their first intraluminal stapling device. Prior to Boston Scientific Corporation, he was a Team Leader during the ramp up for laparoscopic surgery at J&J’s Ethicon Endosurgery division in Cincinnati, OH. Before joining the medical device field, he held management positions at General Dynamics and Owens Corning Fiberglass. He has over 30 patents in the medical device field.

Albert Chin

Albert Chin, V.P. of R&D, started in May 2007. Albert has over 20 years experience and a proven track record in technology and product development of minimally invasive medical devices from concept to commercialization. Prior to joining Interlace Medical, Albert was the Director of R&D Neurotechnologies for Codman, a J&J company, where he managed a $3M+ budget and successfully launched three new products in Electrosurgery, Neuro monitoring and Biologics markets. Prior to Codman, Albert spent 11 years in the Corporate Technology Group at Boston Scientific Corporation as R&D/Program Manager managing new product development projects with budgets ranging from $2M to $20M. During his time at Boston Scientific Corporation, he co-founded two internal startups which led to the formation of two new divisions in Neurointervention and Endovascular business. He has 14 patents on proprietary technology platforms for multiple catheter-based cardiovascular devices with revenues in excess of $100M. Prior to Boston Scientific Corporation, he was an R&D engineer for Kendall.

David Jacobs

David Jacobs, V.P. of Operations, joined Interlace Medical in October 2007. Dave’s previous position was V.P. of Engineering and Operations at Intact Medical, a venture funded start-up that developed and marketed an RF powered breast biopsy device. Prior to joining Intact Medical in 2001, Dave was Director of Operations for ACT Medical, a contract Engineering and Manufacturing company serving the needs of the medical device industry. Dave’s background includes managing Research and Development, Engineering, Quality, and Operations. He has significant experience and success managing operations in rapidly growing, technology-based companies. These companies include MDI (acquired by Becton Dickinson), NetSilicon, and MPM. Dave has also served in executive positions in established companies such as Barry Wright and Eaton Corporation.

John Vozella J.D.

John Vozella J.D., V.P. of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, joined Interlace Medical in July 2008. John has over 30 years of experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Interlace Medical he was V.P. of Regulatory Affairs, Clinical and Quality Assurance at NDO Surgical. He has held similar executive positions at SomaLogic, Cadent Medical, MediSense and Kendall Healthcare Company. He has extensive experience at establishing global regulatory strategies in support of product introductions. He has designed and implemented clinical trials to obtain FDA clearance and reimbursement. He has also established quality systems and successfully completed audits to ISO 13485-2003 with zero non-conformances. Prior to his corporate experience, John was an Investigator for the Department of HHS - U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Rodney Marcy

Rodney Marcy, V.P. of Sales and Marketing, joined Interlace Medical in August 2009 with over 30 years experience in the medical device industry. Rodney has extensive experience in the women’s health sector having been the Director of Sales of the Gynecare Division of Johnson and Johnson Corporation where he launched the Thermachoice global endometrial ablation system to the U.S. Prior to his role in the Gynecare Division, Rodney spent 18 years in senior management positions in the ETHICON Division of J&J. Following his employment with J&J, Rodney held the roles of V.P. of Sales at venture funded Sanarus, and V.P. of Sales and V.P. of Global Market Development for Covidien Energy-based Devices Division.

Bob Palardy

Bob Palardy, Controller, joined Interlace Medical in August 2009. With over 34 years of experience managing the financial aspects of both small and large manufacturing operations of publicly traded and privately held corporations, Bob brings a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to Interlace Medical. Prior to joining Interlace Medical, Bob was Senior V.P. and CFO of the Massachusetts Peer Review Organization. His medical device experience is extensive having spent eight years as the CFO of Cambridge Heart Inc. and eighteen years at Smith & Nephew where he held various senior level financial positions in the orthopedic and endoscopy business units. Prior to joining Smith & Nephew, Bob was part of the Compliance Staff engaged in auditing publicly traded multinational manufacturers at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC.

Nicole Shugrue MBA

Nicole Shugrue MBA, Director of Marketing, joined Interlace Medical in September 2008 with over 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Nicole has experience in sales, marketing, and product development having most recently served as the Senior Global Marketing Manager at Candela Corporation. Prior to this position, she led the marketing effort on the Hydro-Thermablator endometrial ablation device within the Urology/Gynecology Division of Boston Scientific Corporation. She has held senior sales and/or marketing roles at Laboratory Corporation of America, Davol a division of CR Bard, GE Medical, (formerly Datex-Ohmeda) and Bayer Diagnostics (formerly Ciba-Corning Diagnostics). She has experience in creating physician and sales training materials and programs. Nicole also has experience with advertising and direct-to-consumer promotions. She has trained large sales organizations in preparation for product launches and comes to Interlace Medical with strong relationships in the gynecology community.
